Mario Wellmann is a Chilean jazz guitarist, composer, and PhD Fellow in Music at Columbia University, based in New York City and Austin. In 2026, he received Chile's equivalent of the NEA—Fondo de la Música—to produce his debut album as al eader, Ecosdel Sur, which will be recorded in New York with Grammy-winningengineer Joseph Branciforte. A two-time DownBeat Student Music Award recipient, Mario has performed across the U.S., Europe, and Latin America at venues including The  Django, Jazz Forum Arts,and Sala Master in Santiago. This summer he embarks on a U.S. pre-recording tour with dates at Blues Alley (Washington, D.C.)and Nublu, followed by an international album release tour in December and Januarywith stops at Jazzatlán (Mexico City) and SalaMaster (Santiago, Chile).
