Wed, Jan 14 Danae Greenfield

As a mere 18 month-old, Danae Greenfield’s tiny, untrained fingers tapped out sounds and patterns on a battery-operated, single octave toy keyboard given to her by her parents. Playing this color-coded keyboard in her Bellevue, Washington home, marked the start of Danae’s pursuit of music. At the age of six, she began taking classical piano lessons which were interspersed with other genres. She transitioned to jazz at the age of 12. Danae immersed herself fully in jazz during her high school years, performing with Newport’s and Bellevue College’s top jazz bands, as well as Bruce Staelens' Music Works Honors Jazz Ensemble. After graduating from Newport in 2013, Danae moved to Boston to attend Berklee College of Music where she was awarded a performance-based full-tuition four year scholarship. Danae has had the privilege of sharing the stage with Chick Corea, Ambrose Akinmusire,  Terell Stafford, Sean Jones, Tia Fuller, and Jason Palmer. She has performed in venues such as the Paramount Theater and Tula’s Jazz Club in Seattle, the Wilbur Theatre in Boston, and Golden State Theatre in Monterey, CA. Danae was also invited to participate in the Next Generation Jazz Festival in April 2017 as a clinician and performer, opening for John Clayton’s group. 

Danae graduated Summa Cum Laude from Berklee with a Bachelor of Music Degree in Performance and Professional Music in May 2017. She is currently based in Brooklyn, NY, where she is evolving her sound as a pianist and performer of creative music. She leads two bands: a jazz acoustic trio and an electronic quintet, which combines elements of jazz, fusion, and electronic music. Danae also plays in the styles of folk, rock, pop, and funk, among other genres. 

In January 2019, Danae led her first tour with her fusion quintet on the West Coast, selling out the Blue Whale in Los Angeles, alongside Amber Navran (of Moonchild) and her band. Since moving to New York, Danae has had the opportunity to work with artists such as John Legend, Clairo, Ben Platt, John Carroll Kirby, Tiny Habits, Fatai, Raveena, Emily Browning, Holly Humberstone, Hailey Knox, Adam Neely, and Amber Navran, among others. 

In May 2019, Danae released her debut EP "Shelter" with her jazz quartet, which is available on all streaming services!Danae is delighted to be endorsed by Nord Keyboards, as well as Earthquaker Devices. 

In addition, Danae also performs regularly at corporate and private events. Since moving to New York, Danae has had the opportunity to play at venues such as Radio City Music Hall, Forest Hills Stadium, Brooklyn Steel, Rockwood Music Hall, Mercury Lounge, Pianos, SohoHouse, Ludlow House, Baby’s All Right, Bowery Electric, The Owl Music Parlor, C’mon Everybody, DROM, Silvana and Shrine, among other
